protected riding for the Acadian region of Ch\u00e9ticamp has passed the committee stage without changes, despite voter parity concerns raised by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d21y75miwcfqoq.cloudfront.net\/70c8fc80\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The legislation is in response to a Nova Scotia Supreme Court ruling that said the Charter rights of the Acadians in northwestern Cape Breton were violated when they weren\u2019t considered for protected redistribution, and ensure effective representation of Acadian and African Nova Scotian voters.<\/p>\n<p>The bill would allow the government to appoint a special electoral boundaries commission to create another protected riding for the Acadians, after the court said Ch\u00e9ticamp and surrounding areas represent a cultural community of interest.<\/p>\n<p>But Halifax chamber president Patrick Sullivan told the legislature\u2019s law amendments committee today that a full commission should be struck to look at representation across the province.<\/p>\n<section
