Mayers. They embraced and sobbed.<\/p>\n<p>Amid the chaos, it took the clerk a few minutes to read the second not guilty verdict once Rocky returned to the defence table after hugging his longtime girlfriend.<\/p>\n<div class=\"l-article__part\" data-shortcode=\"caption\">\n<figure class=\"c-figure c-figure--alignnone c-figure--expandable\">\n<div class=\"c-figure__inner\"><figcaption class=\"c-figure__caption c-caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"c-caption__desc\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\tRakim Mayers, aka A$AP Rocky, dives towards the gallery as the verdict is given in his felony assault trial at Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center on Feb. 18, 2025 in Los Angeles.\t\t\t\t<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<cite class=\"c-caption__cite\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\tDaniel Cole-Pool\/Getty Images)\t\t\t\t<\/cite><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know how athletic he was,\u201d Rocky\u2019s lawyer Joe Tacopina told reporters outside the courthouse. \u201cThat was raw emotion, you guys got to see that. Even for us it was insane.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-ad c-ad--bigbox l-article__ad\">\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After a tense three-week trial, the jury deliberated for just three hours to reach the verdict that spared Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, a prison sentence of up to 24 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank y\u2019all for saving my life,\u201d Rocky told the jurors as they left the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Mayers, you\u2019re excused,\u201d Judge Mark Arnold said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-tabs\">\n<p>\n\t\t\t<button role=\"tab\" class=\"c-tabs__tab c-tabs__tab--active\" type=\"button\">More on Entertainment<\/button><br \/>\n\t\t\t<button role=\"tab\" class=\"c-tabs__tab\" type=\"button\">More videos<\/button>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On the eve of trial, Rocky turned down a prosecution offer of just six months in jail, along with probation and other conditions, if he pleaded guilty to one count.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors and their witnesses said Rocky was feuding with a former friend, A$AP Relli. The pair had been in a crew who called themselves the A$AP Mob since high school. They said the two men met up in Hollywood on Nov. 6, 2021, and after a scuffle, Rocky pulled the gun and fired twice at Relli, who said one of the shots grazed his knuckle. He was not seriously hurt.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-inlineSignup\" data-newsletter-inline=\"\">\n<div class=\"c-inlineSignup__image\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/wp-content\/themes\/shaw-globalnews\/images\/skyline\/national.jpg\" alt=\"Get the day's top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day.\"\/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"c-inlineSignup__content\">\n<h3>Get daily National news<\/h3>\n<p>Get the day&#8217;s top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tacopina said in his closing argument that Relli is \u201can angry pathological liar\u201d who \u201ccommitted perjury again and again and again and again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rocky\u2019s lawyers and the witnesses they called said Rocky had shot a prop gun that only fires blanks, which he had been carrying for security since taking it from a music video set months earlier. We want to thank God first, you know what I\u2019m saying?\u201d Rocky told the press. \u201cAnd I really want to thank the jury for making the right decision. I\u2019m just so thankful. This is crazy right now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis whole experience has been crazy for the past four years,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut I\u2019m thankful, nonetheless. I\u2019m thankful and blessed to be here right now to be a free man talking to y\u2019all. Thank you. He\u2019ll also be at the height of fashion\u2019s biggest night, the Met Gala, as a celebrity co-chair along with LeBron James and Pharrell Williams in May.
