Many of them were put to use for the first time this winter.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing, hardly any,\u201d said Kelowna resident Leith Handley when asked how much <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/snow-shoveling\">snow shovelling<\/a> he\u2019s done this season.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/snow\">snow<\/a> accumulation in the Okanagan\u2019s valley bottom this <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/winter\">winter<\/a> left many chomping at the bit to get shovelling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve done at least four or five driveways today,\u201d said eight-year-old Owen.<\/p>\n<p>The snow started coming down across the Okanagan early Sunday and continued to fall throughout the day and night.<\/p>\n<p>In Kelowna\u2019s Lower Mission, about nine cm was measured, nearly 12 cm in other neighbourhoods depending on elevation.<\/p>\n<p>However, it\u2019s not so much about the amount of snow that fell but the timing of the valley\u2019s first significant snowfall of the winter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-ad c-ad--bigbox l-article__ad\">\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe usually see our first significant snow in December and January,\u201d said Global News meteorologist Peter Quinlan. \u201cFebruary is definitely a little late and we are kind of on the tail end of winter in the the city\u2019s infrastructure operations manager, Geert Bos, told Global news crews would be working all night laying down sand and salt to prevent roads from turning into ice skating rinks ahead of
