Construction activity on Appaloosa Road in Kelowna<\/a>, B.C., has ramped up as the site is prepped for the city\u2019s next tiny home community<\/a> to support those experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to the city, work underway includes site grading.<\/p>\n The 60-home facility will be similar to Step Place on Crowley Avenue near the downtown core, which opened last February.<\/p>\n But as construction activity on site increases, so too do concerns among area residents.<\/p>\n \u201cThey announced all this before talking to us, \u201d said Mike Johnson, who lives half a block away. \u201cThey are going ahead doing stuff without returning calls and emails. There is no interaction between them with us at all.\u201d<\/p>\n The project is expected to be completed by mid-year.<\/p>\n Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n \u201cWe are worried about, you know, coming on our property and different stuff,\u201d said Les Auch, another nearby resident.\u00a0 \u201cI think once they are in here, I think there will be lots of drug use in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n The project is a joint initiative by the City and BC Housing and now an operator has been announced.<\/p>\n Connective has been around for 90 years and runs a number of housing projects across B.C.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are excited to really bring our experience and unique insights into programming development,\u201d said Chris Watkins, Connective\u2019s director for South Okanagan and the Kootenays.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t
