The NOAA is calling the sounds a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/video\/951839\/titan-submersible-coast-guard-marine-board-investigation-releases-audio-recording\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suspected acoustic signature<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"l-article__oembed embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>The actual audio of the Titan Sub implosion. Three other people were on board the tourist expedition: Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman Dawood, both members of a wealthy Pakistani business family, and Hamish Harding, a British the 2023 disaster sparked <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/stockton-rush\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">questions about its safety<\/a> and Rush\u2019s business practices.<\/p>\n<div with the National Transportation Safety Board, told the hearing last September that there were wrinkles, porosity and voids in the carbon fibre used for the pressure hull of the submersible and that the vessel behaved differently after a loud bang was heard on one of the dives a year before it imploded.<\/p>\n<p>Hull pieces recovered from the sea floor after the June 2023 tragedy showed The hearing heard that each dive taken by the Titan likely compressed and damaged the vessel, making it weaker over time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-ad c-ad--bigbox l-article__ad\">\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Kramer\u2019s statements were followed by testimony from William Kohnen, a longtime submersibles expert and key member of the Marine Technology Society. While he helped to build the window for the Titan as part of the Hydrospace Group Company, Kohnen emerged as a critic of OceanGate in the aftermath of the implosion and has <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/10775046\/titan-sub-hearing-photos-carbon-fibre-hull\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described the disaster as preventable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"l-article__part\" data-shortcode=\"caption\">\n<figure class=\"c-figure c-figure--alignnone c-figure--expandable\">\n<div class=\"c-figure__inner\"><figcaption class=\"c-figure__caption c-caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"c-caption__desc\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\tDebris from the Titan submersible.\t\t\t\t<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<cite class=\"c-caption__cite\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\tNTSB\t\t\t\t<\/cite><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Kohnen was one of several experts who sent a letter to Rush in 2018, warning of possible dangers with the Titan.<\/p>\n<p>He told the hearing that OceanGate requested a flat window for visual benefits, despite recommending that an \u201carched\u201d acrylic window would be structurally sound and what is usually used for underwater vessels.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing heard that the window was only rated to a depth of 1,300 metres, but the Titan was making dives <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/10775046\/titan-sub-hearing-photos-carbon-fibre-hull\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">almost three times that depth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-ad c-ad--bigbox l-article__ad\">\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Kohnen also pushed back on the idea that the Titan could not have been thoroughly tested before use because of its experimental nature.
