On Monday, Selena Gomez<\/a> posted and deleted a tearful Instagram video<\/a> that showed her crying over the deportation of undocumented immigrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a> (ICE) agents under U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> new executive orders on immigration.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During his first week in office, Trump signed 10 executive orders<\/a> on immigration and issued a slew of edicts to carry out promises of mass deportations and tighten\u00a0border security.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to say that I\u2019m so sorry,\u201d Gomez, 32, said in the now-deleted video. \u201cAll my people are getting attacked, the children. I don\u2019t understand. I\u2019m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what to do. I\u2019ll try everything, I promise,\u201d she added, as she wiped away tears. In text over the video, she wrote, \u201cI\u2019m sorry\u201d and added the Mexican flag emoji.<\/p>\n

Gomez faced backlash after sharing the video with her 422 million Instagram followers. Many people, including conservative commentators, criticized Gomez for posting a video of herself crying over the mass deportations.<\/p>\n

\u201cApparently it\u2019s not ok to show empathy for people,\u201d Gomez wrote on her Instagram story after deleting the crying video.<\/p>\n

Shortly afterwards, Sam Parker, a 2018 Republican U.S. Senate candidate from Utah, posted<\/a>, \u201cDeport Selena Gomez\u201d on X and pinned it to his profile.<\/p>\n

In response to Parker, Gomez posted on her Instagram stories and wrote, \u201cOh Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parker wasn\u2019t the only person who criticized Gomez after she shared her now-deleted video on Instagram. Trump\u2019s \u201cborder czar<\/a>\u201d Tom Homan told<\/a> Fox News on Monday that he has \u201cno apologies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think we\u2019ve arrested any families. We\u2019ve arrested public safety threats and national security threats, bottom line,\u201d Homan said<\/a>. \u201cIt is all for the good of this nation, and we\u2019re gonna keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got a half a million children who were sex trafficked into this country, separated from their families, put in the hands of criminal cartels to be smuggled into the country. This administration can\u2019t find over 300,000. Where\u2019s the tears for them?\u201d Homan added in response to Gomez\u2019s tearful video.<\/p>\n

Political host Tomi Lahren<\/a> posted a video<\/a> on X, calling Gomez \u201cstupid and ill-informed,\u201d adding, \u201cThis is why we don\u2019t take our political advice from Disney child stars.\u201d<\/p>\n

Megyn Kelly<\/a> also criticized Gomez during her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show<\/em>, calling the\u00a0Emilia P\u00e9rez\u00a0<\/em>actor \u201cunwell\u201d for posting the video.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s unwell. Obviously, this is an unwell person,\u201d Kelly said on Monday. \u201cAnybody who takes their phone, works up in tears, and posts a video of themselves crying into their phone is sick. That\u2019s a sick person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTears happen. They tend to happen privately,\u201d she added. \u201cIf they happen publicly, I think you should quickly move on and recover. I don\u2019t understand the person who works it and tries to squeeze out more tears to make themselves look extra sad.\u201d<\/p>\n
