{"id":12029,"date":"2025-01-16T23:57:47","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T23:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/torontotribune.ca\/index.php\/2025\/01\/16\/inside-reginas-2025-crime-plan\/"},"modified":"2025-01-16T23:57:47","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T23:57:47","slug":"inside-reginas-2025-crime-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/torontotribune.ca\/index.php\/2025\/01\/16\/inside-reginas-2025-crime-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Inside Regina\u2019s 2025 crime plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>Regina has a new mayor, a new city council and a new year in which to lower crime.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re positive about the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/crime\">crime<\/a> statistics, but that doesn\u2019t mean we can sit back and rest easy,\u201d says Lorilee Davies, Regina\u2019s Deputy Chief of Police.<\/p>\n<p>New leaders of Saskatchewan\u2019s capital are challenged with setting priorities to make the city safer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The} city council is almost essentially new, and so we will be excited to hear from them what their priorities are,\u201d says Davies. \u201cAnd the same with our board of police commissioners. We\u2019ve had a lot of turnover there,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Davies believes community feedback is crucial in upholding Regina\u2019s reputation as a safe city in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t work in the city and police the city without the trust of our community, so we have to understand what the community needs and wants from us,\u201d says Davies. \u201cAnd we have to be adaptive to be able to be able to respond to that. So yeah, I would say hearing what the community wants is absolutely 100-per cent key to our success.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-ad c-ad--bigbox l-article__ad\">\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mayor Chad Bachynski echoed Davies\u2019 sentiments that community input is key.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think overall, from my perspective is the sense of safety. I think when people perceive safety, there is safety in the community,\u201d Bachynski says. \u201cSo, you know, there\u2019s a lot of work that goes into that.
